Your Monthly Dose of Care (November 2024)

It’s been another busy month full of events and travel for us at CareMatch.

From celebrating the Urraween Village launch to attending the Perry Cross Spinal Research Foundation’s End of Year Celebration, embarking on a crypto adventure in Dubai, and more, we’ve got plenty to share. Plus, with our team Christmas party just around the corner and November’s Carer of the Month winner to announce, there’s more to celebrate. But first, we’d like to say a big thank you and goodbye to Asher Weddell, our Compliance & Administration Officer. Asher has been a dedicated and valued member of our team, and while we’ll miss her, we’re excited to see her pursue her dream of becoming a nurse. Asher, thank you for everything and we wish you all the best on this exciting new chapter!

And, in exciting industry news this month, the government has announced an $8.1M commitment over four years to break down barriers for artists and audiences with disabilities. This significant step forward will create more inclusive opportunities in the arts – a development well worth sharing!

Our FIFO supports resume in Young

Over a year ago, we launched our unique fly-in, fly-out (FIFO) service, designed to provide personalised care for one of our participants in regional NSW. This innovative approach brings care staff to the participant’s hometown on regular rotations, ensuring consistent support in a familiar environment. After a brief pause while our participant relocated up the coast for some rehabilitation and winter sunshine, we’re happy to announce that this incredible service has resumed!

It’s a significant undertaking for our team, and we’re excited to explore expanding this impactful model to support more communities in need. If you know of a participant or regional community that could benefit from a service like this, or if you’re interested in learning more, reach out to us today. Call Henry on 0451 874 693.

These are the types of features you’d find in a Gold Coast high rise – now they’re coming to Hervey Bay

Earlier this month, Tori and Henry had the privilege of attending the Urraween Village Project Launch – a groundbreaking development from Accessible Homes Australia featuring twelve new Specialists Disability Accommodation (SDA) villas in Hervey Bay.

While the modern and stylish villas are exciting enough on their own, the best part of this AHA development is that it’s regional. Hervey Bay has double the state average of individuals with a disability, so these villas are needed more than ever.

The innovative designs include 2 bedroom, 2 bathroom villas with access to communal living spaces, a hydro pool, and a gym.

Applications are now open for the Urraween Village project. The project is currently under construction with a completion date expected early 2026.

Cheers to a groundbreaking year for the Perry Cross Spinal Research Foundation

Our team had the honour of attending the PCSRF’s End of Year Thank You Celebration at HOTA.

Tori, his family, Henry, Fiona and Asher all enjoyed an inspiring night surrounded by people dedicated to making a difference to those living with paralysis.

The team were especially moved by guest speaker Mark Mathews, champion big wave surfer and Red Bull athlete, who delivered an incredible keynote on Life Beyond Fear. Mark shared powerful insights about overcoming challenges, conquering fear, and pushing past limits – an empowering message that resonates deeply. Thank you, Perry Cross Spinal Research Foundation, for such an unforgettable event.

Tori and Will enter the world of crypto in Dubai

Tori and Will dove into the world of crypto trading on their recent trip to Dubai. For Tori, it was a mix of learning and fun, while Will was thriving in the ever-evolving world. The boys also took time to explore the city’s vibrant culture and kept their minds sharp with daily gym sessions.

Here’s to embracing new challenges and chasing opportunities.

Tori also had the privilege of attending the TSS Business Breakfast at the Gold Coast Convention and Exhibition Centre. The event featured inspiring talks from Perry Cross and Professor James St John, who each shared updates about the groundbreaking clinical trials to cure paralysis – set to start in the new year. Their updates continue to show us how innovation is reshaping the future of those living with paralysis, and healthcare in general. As always, we feel optimistic about the possibilities ahead when hearing these talks.
