Everybody does things differently, but in our world of care and support, personalised care and specialty services are the driving force behind everything we do. As we share our approach to care with you, we welcome you into a world where the recipient of care is not just a passive participant, but the one in charge. A world where care extends beyond routine support, but one where friendships are formed. And for those with a spinal cord injury (SCI) or high physical requirements, we’re specialists.
Personalised care
Reclaiming personal agency in your care match
It’s not uncommon for those in need of care to be matched with carers based on availability, rather than compatibility. We turn this model on its head, because everyone should have the power to choose their carer. After all, it’s going to be one of the most important relationships in their life. And nobody knows their needs and preferences better than they do. Our clients determine the type of care and support they require, along with the when and the who. Whether it’s gender, personality or a particular skill-set of their preferred carer, our clients are able to feel comfortable and at ease, setting the foundation for a trusting and lasting relationship.
Beyond typical care and support
While daily care and support routines are an integral component of our services, we aim to go further. Whether it’s assisting with social gatherings and outings, facilitating travel, providing general household assistance, supporting educational studies, running errands, traveling to sports and rehabilitation appointments, or any other aspect of life where a helping hand is needed, we’re there. We’re there to help our clients achieve all of their goals, and get out into their community. We don’t believe in simply completing tasks, it’s about enabling our clients and friends to live life to their fullest potential.
Marcus Scanes, one of our carers, perfectly summed this up: “It’s not about completing tasks, it’s about ensuring my client feels their daily sense of freedom.”
Mate-ship and genuine connection
Our founder and managing director of CareMatch, Vitori Buatava, perfectly summed up our attitude on mate-ship when he said “I’m not really there as a support worker, I like to think that I’m there as a mate, and we do mate-like things.”
It’s our view that the relationship between a carer and a client goes beyond professional ‘obligation’. We value the concept of mate-ship, where you don’t just ‘clock in and out’ or ‘complete tasks’, but form genuine, trusting bonds. We’re there as friends, sharing moments of happiness and challenges alike. It’s not uncommon for clients to become like family, and that’s something we’re proud of.
Specialty care
Specialists in spinal cord injury (SCI) support
As at the last report commissioned by Spinal Cure Australia and icare (2020), approximately 20,800 Australians under 65 years of age are living with an SCI. In fact, it’s estimated that 350-400 new cases are reported each year from traumatic events. One area where we stand out, is our dedication in supporting those living with an SCI. We’ve made it our business to have the knowledge, expertise and experience required to support individuals living with SCI. Our focus is on promoting independence, building confidence, aiding in recovery, and enhancing the overall quality of life for those in our care.
Onsite Shared Support (OSS) service
Our OSS service was born from our understanding that those with high physical requirements often need 24/7 on-call assistance. It’s not an offering you typically see from an everyday care provider, it’s usually reserved for companies who manage a property too. In collaboration with Accessible Homes Australia, we offer our OSS model at their Specialist Disability Accommodation project, East Palm Beach. This service ensures CareMatch is onsite 24/7 to support those residing in the building, allowing our clients to live with confidence, knowing that help is always on hand.
As we grow and evolve, our aim is to redefine what personalised and specialty care mean. Stay on this journey of empowerment, connection and innovation with us!
